PRINCESS BEATRICE HOUSE, CHELSEA, UK

Princess Beatrice House, Chelsea
Detail of the

Princess Beatrice House stands on the corner of Old Brompton Road and Finborough Road, and was originally opened in 1887 as the Queen's Jubilee Hospital, to commemorate the Jubilee of Queen Victoria. It originally had 14 beds and catered solely for the 'sick and needy poor'.

The original building was replaced in 1930. Princess Beatrice, Queen Victoria's youngest daughter, laid the foundation stone for the new building, which was renamed the Princess Beatrice Hospital. Only two-thirds of the intended design was built - the southern wing along Finborough Road was never added. It closed as a hospital in 1978 and has now been converted into residential apartments
